Heaven's Lot

I hear your foot steps,
I know you are there, soon
they’ll be all too loud
to bear.

At first those foot steps
hardly made a sound.
Now they grow louder
with every waking bound.

As I look over my shoulder,
I can see your foot prints,
your shrouded bony hands
and your frightful message
written in the snow white sand.

Listen old man, when you
catch up with me I won’t
run, I won’t cry, because
I’ve lived a long and full
life with a wonderful wife
and children by my side.

I fought the wars,
I’ve climbed the mountain,
I’ve sailed the seven seas.

I’ve danced with the devil.
I’ve soared with the eagles,
and above all, I’ve
always been me.

So you and I both know
the only way you're going
to get me, is to take my
life indeed.

And that my old friend,
I fear you not, for you
see… that’s really
Heaven’s Lot!
