Tears at Last

I shed these tears at last
for a time so sadly past.
When I was just a young lad of three,
a beautiful twin sister she was to me.

For reasons I’ve never understood,
they say, one stormy night an Angel
took her on a heavenly flight.

Now I’ve wondered all my life,
what a twin sister might be like.

I think we would have always
loved each other…
laughter, tears, promises and
secrets of two that we would
have always cherish anew.

But fate was not ours to pick or choose,
so bottled up sadness and hidden
tears is all I have left to lose.

Now the years have come and gone,
and I am old and gray, but my darling twin
sister…
I wished I still had on this our Seventieth
birthday.
