Flight of the Lovebird

You're too fat
Too homely
Too weak
Too stupid
Too young to make it on your own

These were the bars he used
To build the cage around her

I want to know
Where you are
What you're doing
All the time
Anytime you are not with me

These are the words
Links of the chain he used
To keep her close
And under his control

I love you
I didn't mean it
I just had a bad day
I lost control
And finally
You deserved it

These are the lies he used
To justify
The monster he had become

It was blind love
That brought her there
Fear that kept her there
But finally
It was the love of a friend
That got her out

One day her eyes were opened
She was finally able to see the floor below
The floor
Covered with the bodies of those before her
That learned to fly too late

She might be a little fat
And yes
Maybe a bit too homely
But she was brave enough to look down
Strong enough to find her wings
And was smart enough to leave

He simply cleans out the paper at the bottom
And starts to look again
To fill his empty cage
