Dancing girls of Europe

Here's to the health of those dancing girls
Who stepped and strutted through my dreams,
Nameless but never faceless, now
In review, they pass in proud streams.
I see very first one that I loved
Long shapely legs dark nylon clad.
The sort of thoughts she inspired
In the mind of a young country lad;
Tights dark seamed and properly lined
Encasing perfect, swinging hips
Proud standing jutting breasts
Kissable pouting tempting lips.
Did they know I ogled them there?
Blood racing, body on fire
Trying to keep from my face
The sheer naked desire.
I watched them dance in ‘gladbach
Amsterdam, Koln,  Hannover,  Berlin;
Now the places are just boxes
To file the memories in.
Life has rolled on in its way
To a much less innocent age
Where far more sinister things
Occupy a modern world's stage.
So here's to the health of those dancing girls
May they recall with pride and glee
The joy and pleasures they brought
To hordes of young squaddies like me.
