Remembering you as a little tike
You would climb upon my knee
You had all the time in the world
You were so happy to be around me
Thinking on how quickly you grew
Each year passed by so fast
The time we spent was less and less
But I knew our "Bonding" would last
You had more important things to do
Than to cater to my every whim
So I remained in the background
Becoming obscure . . . and dim
I watched as you went on your way
To experience all life had . . .
You learned a lot through the years
Some good things, and some bad
It's all a part of living, life and family
Where we learn who we are, if we can
We stretch our wings, yearning to be free
It's the common nature of every man
I understood when you weren't there
Your were out there experiencing life
Sowing all of your "Wild Oats"
Cutting your way with an invisible knife
Now your older, settled at best
I enjoy "More" of your company now
I thank God . . . For I am blessed
When you walk in with a big smile
I bid my time so very patiently
Knowing there would come a day
You'd come back, to my secure arms
Like you climbed onto my lap that day.
