Evolution

The Star Eater moves slowly
Through the cosmic hiss and dust
Constantly methodically searching
With a hunger bordering on lust
For the signs of the dying Star
To take energy from the waste
As it spreads the Universe around
A complete feeding without haste
Recycling the energy
Flowing through space
In a constant renewal
Of this endless place
The dramatic death
Of each star
Insignificant
From afar
Only the Whales swimming
Their huge galactic rides
May sense Star's demise
Reflected in energy tides
Maybe
Though not for long
Note each passing
With a burst of song
