It's homecoming day,
A day of jubilee.
The day that I have waited for
To see my family.
All my loved ones gone before
Now are at my side.
Here in my new home
Where I'll forever abide.
My days are full of sunshine
And walks down streets of gold.
The pearly gates are gleaming
Oh what beauty to behold.
Just as He promised
There are mansions waiting here.
There is one especially made for
All my loved ones so dear.
So, hold on ‘til tomorrow
The time is drawing near
When you'll hear the Master calling.
You've nothing to fear.
I'm gazing down upon you
And waiting for the day
When you will join our heavenly
Choir and happily say…
“Thank you, Lord, for calling me home,
For allowing me to sit beside your throne.
The wait has been worth it to finally see
The riches you've always promised to me.”
Now face each day with happiness
For I am waiting here
To welcome you home and
Wipe away your tears.
I wrote this poem a few hours after my grandfather went home to be with the Lord. My family and I were on our way "home," where my grandparents live. It's a six hour trip and thoughts just flooded my mind the whole way. This is the result.
