A Promise I Kept to Thee

I have sat and wondered if you will ever see,
The importance of the promise you made to me.
Such a long time ago when we were very young,
We would laugh and talk and sing some silly song.

That was a long time ago, in a time that's gone away.
I remember, you left me and said you'll be back some day.
How we use to laugh and talk and sing some silly song,
When we were so full of life and oh so very young.

I often wonder if you remember my promise to thee,
I will wait forever and ever until you come back to me.
I still hear the laughter and the silly song we use to sing,
Joy and hope to my heart it did bring.

You left me to seek your goal,
I kept my promise, but I have grown old.
I waited for you to come back to me,
But, gone are the memories of thee.

I hear laughter and I hear a song,
Though my window from the young.
Making promises they may not keep,
As I lay my head to sleep.

To those who wait for a lost love. Look around, there are more fishes in the sea.
