 ramblings and things

street scene

she smiled at me as she passed
bringing me to absolute despair
just your average passing lady
but oh how much i wanted her
the first sign of friendship that
i‘d received on this cold street
i thought of other circumstance
and places that we could meet
pictured a little country bar
a place to sit and think
and i could casually sit
and offer her a drink
conversation flowing
as all the while
she kept looking at me
giving me that smile
as i sat there undressing her mentally
with my barely concealed deep need
which every movement of her lovely
mature rounded body seemed to feed
then she was around the corner
and gone wholly from my sight
i thought how lost and alone am i now
that a stranger smiles at me with trust
and my first and only reaction was
one of pure and animal wanting lust
you don't feel any warm bodies
here homeless on these streets
so the loneliness and cold just
make my degradation complete
i'll just huddle in my doorway
and hope that just for one night
i can fitfully sleep there without
one of those often territorial fights
my doorway is a sheltered draught free niche
and on this mean street that makes me kind of rich
i'll maybe dream of that woman love her in my mind
the only one for many days that at least seemed kind
tomorrow ah tomorrow that proverbial other day
won't seem any different to the cold begging way
if  you go walking by my brother and cast the odd penny
remember its only fickle fortune separates you from me
