Picking Up Your Cross

Luke 9:20-27

The Son of man must suffer many things,
Of rejection from others that life brings;
Then be crucified on a cross and die,
And on the third day be raised on high.

If anyone should come after the Christ,
Let him deny himself and be sacrificed;
In picking up and daily take his cross,
To follow Christ who suffered a loss.

Whoever shall save his life shall lose,
And not even suffer the tiniest bruise;
Whoever loses his life for Christ sake,
He will save it and be eternally awake.

What prophets you in gaining the earth,
Then forfeits himself of his new rebirth?
If being ashamed of Christ and His Word,
He will be ashamed if your name is heard.

If He is in you and you in His command,
Then be assured that His glory is at hand;
And seeing Heaven past your last breath,
But without even having a taste of death.
