It's time to buy a red poppy, time to remember, it's time for Remembrance Day
To give a thought for heroes one's who never came home under foreign soil will stay.
They went out brave and gallant proud to defend their families, homes and lands
Not questioning the whys or wherefores defending their countries honuor with rifles in there hands.
Living in mud muck and mayhem living in the bowels of fiery hell
Seeing horror, around every corner hearing horrific cries and yells.
The smell of death it was upon them seeing and tasting it every day
As comrades fell around them, this was their lot this was the soldier's way.
Living a life of death and destruction trenches, barbed wire bullets and bombs
Looking out for one another the bonds of friendship was ever lasting reality it was strong.
Writing letters to loved ones, would they ever return, to live life was the prize
A telegram to Wife or Mother dead or missing in action tortured inhuman cries.
Fix bayonets up and over was the order look to your front never your rear
Marching forward without question, a killing machine but inside so full of fear.
To lose friend, Father and Brother to fight maim and kill his fellow man
In the midst of carnage, madness and mayhem hard to comprehend, even harder to understand.
Fighting for liberty and our future Army, Navy, Air Force, they gave their all
Giving us freedom and a future, thank you will never be enough, it seems so small.
For every red poppy a heart stopped beating, in fields in hundreds and thousands they lay
Never forget what they sacrificed and did for us, in our hearts and memories for ever should stay.
