Coming to Christ
chorus from At the Cross: "At the cross,at the cross where I first saw the light,and the burdens of my sin rolled away,it was there by faith that I received my sight,and now I am happily all the day!"
On a cool Autumn Sunday morning,
as Sandra sat in her pew in that little white country church,
her arcane sins at last came to light,
under the sweet conviction of the choir's rendition of At the Cross,
a deep remorse fills her heart,
giving rise to great despair and,
the knowledge of her need for forgiveness,
so at the pastor's call,
she makes that short trip down to the altar,
with eyes turned heavenward she begins to pray,
asking with a quiet expectation that the Savior,
shall hear her silent plea.
As Sandra begins to pray,
a sweet peace begins to wash over her soul,
the heavy burdens of her heart become freed at last,
for Christ the Mighty Savior hath heard her pitiful pleas,
and has taken pity upon her poor soul,
washing her white as snow in the river,
of His righteous redeeming blood,
because after so many wasted years,
Sandra has at last heeded the call of faith,
and accepted the call to partake of the sacrifice,
made upon the tree so many years before.
After all those wasted years of needless suffering,
and overwhelming grief,
Sandra's soul hath finally found the sweet abiding peace,
she has always longed for,
and hath been lifted up into the holy family of God.
Not because of anything that she has done,
nor for any price that she would be willing to pay,
has she found this glorious peace of heart mind and soul,
but because of her obedience,
to the Righteous One's call to claim,
the glorious redemption freely given to all,
and accept the sacrifice of pure love,
made upon that blood covered cross all those years ago.
