Messenger from God

God had sent Gabriel into Galilee,
Into Nazareth for a virgin to see;
A man named Joseph she to wed,
Of the family of David it is said.

Now Mary was her given name,
And the angel came to proclaim;
God found in her a special grace,
Bringing a savior to the human race.

But she was vexed what she heard,
From Gabriel in speaking the word;
She thought what could be the goal,
And what would happen to her soul.

Gabriel reassured her and not to fret,
Since it was the Holy Spirit to beget;
A son named Jesus be given birth,
He will be ruler over all the earth.

Son of God from the Most High,
As a means for salvation to justify;
And Mary being a servant of God,
Would obey as she honor and laud.
