Buddha Smiles

                       BUDDHA SMILES!!
                    P.R.Ramachander

Mourn full morn it was,
When the little prince,
Took a stroll.

Tears he has not seen,
In his palace of joy-
His father's house.

Wails he heard,
From a mourn full crowd,
That moved with,
An action less man,
Packed in an wooden box.

Cried a beautiful one,
With disheveled hair,
And tear soaked dress,
"Darling mine,
Why this hurry,
And who will be mine,
To laugh and to cry,
And get all the pleasures of the world."

Buddha smiled,
For knew he not,
The ways of the world.

Counters of time machine rolled.
And then one fine morn,
The apostle of ahimsa,
Came in this blessed land.
Took he a stroll.
To wipe salty tears,
Of his flock.

Rose a man from the crowd,
With a pistol in his hand.
"Sorry", he said,
"You have to die."
And shot he at a closer range.

Our only hope.
The toothless one fell,
With a cry on his lips,
"Hare Ram, Pardon this man."
But no tears in his eyes.

Buddha smiled again,
For he knew,
That himsa is no reply,
To the sublime Ahimsa.

There was a thud,
From the sandy dunes,
After some more time.
Implosion, they claimed,
It was all for peace.
This nation ours,
Ruled by the apostle of peace,
Sighed once more.
The implosion of theirs,
They knew,
Could have killed millions,
Of God's little ones.

Buddha smiled once again,
"This from the land,
Where I was born".

Years strolled fast,
Implosion or explosion,
Again we heard,
In the same heavy sands,
Of the far off place.

Roared he who was at the top,
"See what we have done,
Our nation is at the top."

The beggar sitting close,
Put his hand in his pot,
To see whether it was full.
The peasant with his poison vial,
Turned his gaze,
To see whether good news has come.
Tiny tots laboring hard,
For a pittance of this and that,
Rushed to see,
Whether papa and mama came,
With full of sweets and smile.

All of them were shocked,
To see that for long time to come,
Tears was their only share,
In spite of being at the top.
Salty tears filled,
From their forlorn eyes,
The hole left after the thud.

Buddha smiled again,
"Top from where, pray".
