Les mots juste

How did they collect the last words that a famous person said
Did they have an early warning that they'd very soon be dead
It's a perplexing question to which I've given lots of thought
How did they ensure those bon mots were well and truly caught
It's so much easier now to have them chipped for sound
Then it wouldn't matter if there was no scribe around
I mean did they have a willing scribe
By their side both night and day
Recording every single word that
Their celebrity was heard to say
Imagine in those old times
The poor scribe took a little doze
And in the middle of his break
Off to his maker the subject goes
Or what if the subject
Died with a stutter
Or even worse his last thoughts
Were uttered in a mutter
Or even more worse
What a to do
If the celebrated person
Died sitting on the loo
It just doesn't  matter about the likes of me and you
Discriminatory I know but sadly it's so true
That when nonentity passes with no matter how much wit
The world out there in general just couldn't care a bit
But when it's someone special like a Pope pop star or King
People  always want to hear every single last spoken thing
Its one of life's great mysteries but the famous do seem to try
To successfully utter words of wit and wisdom just before they die
And somehow there always seems to have been a witness around
Who very very carefully copied each glittering last  word down
How did they collect the last words that a famous person said
Did they have an early warning that they'd very soon be dead
