 ramblings and things

he was such a strange mixture
this workmate almost friend
i never ever really knew him
a mystery to the very end
there were rumours when he left
tales of skulduggery and more
one thing pretty certain was
he left just in front of the law
and a certain pretty woman
left town that very day
that my curious acquaintance
went on his merry way
he was a rogue and adulterer
went in to his new life
with that pretty woman
this sister of his wife
but he smiled for all the world
charmed birds down from trees
sauntered through his life
with such consummate ease
but i saw a different side of him
it was december and it was cold
when a street person walked past
neither young or old
but his clothing was ragged
had seen so many better days
and my not quite friend
sent him on his way
wearing that warm coat
taken from his own spare frame
then carried on his chattering banter
just another move in his life's game
and
this is so absurd
nobody
commented or said a word
i hear stories of him every now and then
some good some bad some new some old
but nobody ever tells of how
he saved a fellow being from the cold
