"What Mama Once Said"

                          "What Mama Once Said”
                         (The Prodigal Daughter)

When I was a child
I was selfish and cruel,
Mostly to my Mama,
I'd break all of her rules!

She taught me of God and Jesus to come,
But I'd close my ears and away I would run.

Whatever she said just couldn't be right,
And so many times I'd give her a fight

Every bone in my body was stubborn as could be
But she hung right in there praying and wanting the best for me.

"Just leave me alone"! I thought all the time,
While she would be praying "Oh God, please help her to mind"

I grew up at odds with her for 17 years
Couldn't wait to live on my own
I'd shed no tears!

At last! I could do it all my way,
Bossin' people, running things
And out all night you could bet I would stay!

Sometimes my plan would fail
But I couldn't  have been wrong?
Cause I had the world by the tail

Closer and closer things wouldn't go right
"Hum"! I'll rework my plan, Cause I'm out of sight"!

Never thought of the Jesus I was taught,
Just knew that was some old battle that I once fought.

"Think!" "Think!" Oh what to do,
I'm in so much pain,
My eyes black and blue!!

Then a faint memory of "What Mama Once Said"
"Your life without Jesus will be very sad!"

Dug up my Bible and wiped off the dust,
"What?" Was I not the smartest?
Guess not! My life had been crushed!

Went underwater, I was reborn,
Now I had power, through Jesus evermore!

With the new gift of Faith,
Now I could  always win!
Had to make sure I didn't sin

Then the Devil, he hit me hard and took my brain,
But I held my faith, and now I am sane!

Now I'm happy and Jesus leads the way
What was that "Mama Once Said" and I didn't listen?
It was the Truth, and now I'm a Christian!
