The singer

The singer
Sang a room of love and joy
Sang a girl
Sang a boy
Sang acres of roses
Floating and sweeping
Across a carpet
To a baby sleeping
Sang her notes
Lower and lower
Sang her melody
Slower and slower
Sang a sky
Of midnight blue
Casting starlight on
One upturned shoe
With a sad mean
 Ragged little hole
Spoiling the virtue
Of its sole
She sang the world
Sang its turning
Sang with a voice
So full of yearning
Sang the void
Between each star
Sang a galaxy
From afar
Sang the void
She could not mend
Sang one last clear crystal note
That brought her song to an end
One last note
Just one
And in a flicker
She was gone
