"Just Before Midnight"
Each night as I sleep
I leave my cell
Escaping in dreams
From this terrible hell
I visit family
And all my friends
Laughing and joking
Until night ends
Each day I wait
For night to begin
So I can go home
Once again
As I look back
So long ago
Wishing to change
What now I know
Finally one evening
Just before midnight
The battle was over
I'd lost my fight
It got so quiet
No one was talking
All you could hear was
Dead man walking.
