"The Gathering"
Ripples and wavy patterns flowed
Waters rushed quickly downstream
The horses of the braves slowed
As they gathered, at the scene
An afternoon, filled with peace
A special time to talk and plan. . .
About attacks, that didn't cease
Between. . . Tribes and the white man
Enjoying "Mother Nature's" gifts
At this gathering, was so rare
Today they relax, as pressure lifts
Thanking "Great Spirit" for his care
Even the Wolf dogs understood
Romping in the waters, at play
A chance to run free in the wood
Sensing the calmness, of the day
Groups of braves, here and there
Some spearing fish, for a meal
Others, held weapons close...for fear
Of white man's . . . Intent to kill
A quiet day, of leisure and rest
How "The Great Spirit" meant it to be
The beauty of nature, His bequest
And for all man . . . To Be Free!
