There is a monkey on your back,
Because of the faith that you lack;
Being plagued since you are weak,
For worldly pleasure that you seek.
The weight from the burden of sin,
And will cause you to drag within;
As causes you to shed much doubt,
That more quickly also tire you out.
Rid the burden that slows you down,
Make a smile come from that frown;
Rid especially all the sin that clings,
With all of the hardship that it brings.
Consider life almost just like a race,
Persevering helps you keep the pace;
Resisting the temptation as you go,
That will cause your patience to grow.
So keep Jesus in your mind and heart,
Which to cause the monkey to thwart;
Thinking of why He died on the cross,
Will keep your mind away from chaos.
