I am just a dreamer of dreams.
We all know the politician's worth
Compared to we mass of mere mortals
With whom they inhabit this earth.
I have been a soldier in my time
Learned many a military skill
To stand in line to march to obey
And many different ways to kill.
Just a Cold War veteran
From a time of uneasy peace;
Never fired a shot in anger
Lived a life of relative ease.
Now I see those young men
Sent off in unseemly haste
To fight a dubious cause,
All such a dreadful waste.
So Mr Politician,
So full of all your talk,
Let me see you dear sir
Walk the squaddie walk;
Bring back all the young men
The very future of this earth
Then get yourself in uniform
And let's see what you're worth.
And me and all those veterans
Much nearer life's other end
With stand in line behind you
And that's a promise, friend.
We'll see then
If your talk is still so fine
When your own life
Is there placed on the line:
If you believe
Your war is so right
Then get your self there
And let's see you fight.
I am just a dreamer of dreams.
We all know the politician's worth
Compared to we mass of mere mortals
With whom they inhabit this earth.
