  October's Child

FROM EARTH'S BOWELS

FROM EARTH'S BOWELS

I stretched forth these limbs to shed decay
Reaching seared land that saw not springtime
Yet naked I was forced inside nature's prey
From the bowels of earth I slowly climb

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Parched and broken I am to remain without
Total fulfillment bent by time and aloneness
With branches twisted and tossed about
While reaching with hope into emptiness
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As I remain not what I am to be, but a soul
That lives lonely inside this barren soil
Searching for one to nurture and console
This withered shell in constant turmoil

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hold tenderly these arms so weak and bare
Lest I fall back to the dust of which I came
Shelter me from all destitution and despair
Lending a unity that I too, may reclaim
'de terre entrailles'
