You Let Him
You let him
Hit you the first time
Maybe it caught you by surprise
Maybe he convinced you
That it was your fault
Maybe he came back the next day
And promised
It would never ever happen again
The point is
You let him
You let him hit you the second time
This time it was worse
It wasn’t just the slap on the face
It wasn’t a swack on the butt
This time he used his fist
Did you think
Maybe it was your fault again
Did you really think
That somehow you deserved this
Or were you afraid
Afraid to leave
Afraid that you couldn’t make it on your own
Afraid that he would really come after you
But he beat you
And you let him
You let him come home
The first time you found out
He cheated on you
He slept with another woman
Broke your trusted vows
And you let him
Maybe he said he was just drunk
Maybe he said
That it didn’t mean a thing
Maybe he promised this would never ever happen again
Maybe you were scared
Afraid you couldn’t make it on your own
Now that you had me
But
He slept with another woman
And you let him
I know this sounds kinda harsh
I know that these words really hurt
But there is one thing that you have to understand
You weren’t home last night
You weren’t here when he came home
Came home drunk and angry
No
You weren’t here
But I was
He didn’t hit me hard
It really didn’t hurt that much
But that is not the point
That is not the reason that I’m writing this letter
The reason I wasn’t home when you got here
You may have your excuses
You may feel there is really
No way out
But I don’t
You can stay here if you want
God, I hope you find a way to leave
But as for me
I’m done
Someday he’ll kill you
If you let him
But he will never ever have me in his house again
Because
I won’t
That SOB is just lucky I am not more like him
Of course, so am I

Abuse is seldom asked for, no one deserves it.
The problem is that it is tolerated and allowed to continue sometimes being passed from generation to generation.
At one point someone has to stop and say No More.
