The Lights Of Another World
The white neon lights were flashing ‘OPEN'
Only thing that is around this time of night
Within sits a man devoid of emotion
His face as pale as the outside moonlight
The sound of the waitress putting the chairs up
And the sound of the spoon and the cup being swirled
She passes him by as he just grasps his coffee cup
As he just stares into the lights of another world
Three hours earlier down the great West road
A red Ford Escort, cruised past a silent neighbourhood
Only the sight of scavenging urban foxes, around in this W5 postcode
Two shadows listened to the car radio. One was thinking he'd take it back if he could
She looked out the window, looking at the darkened houses pass by
Her lips trembling and her mouth curled
He just looked straight on; he didn't mean to make her cry
As she continued to stare into the lights of another world
One hour from home, the red Ford Escort pulled over
He got out and walked into the surprisingly still open park
The sound of the slamming car door, made him turn towards her
It all happened whilst classic FM, played on the car radio, some Bach
Her tears became screams, and her screams became silent
He didn't know how it happened but his words became actions in which he hurled
Those minutes became like years as his adrenalin got caught up in the excitement
As he just stood and looked at her, staring into the lights of another world
The waitress gently touched his shoulder, telling him she was closing
No response from him, he just continued to stir his spoon, around and around
The sound of his ring, tapping his coffee mug, he couldn't grasp what was happening
The blue and red sirens, speed past the flashing CLOSED sign making their sound
The Waitress was turning off all the lights, and asking him to leave
He gets up, coat, tightly drawn around him, as the winds outside whirled
He wipes away his tears, with his blood stained sleeve
Staring into the lights of another world.
