 The City Lies Sleeping
(I truly have no idea where this came from but I hope it is good.)
The City Lies Sleeping
From the moment of time
In this old nursery rhyme
Stood a clock in a tower
Where the birds all took shelter
In the city at night
Where the poet would write
All the words of the chapter
And his feelings he captured
And the city lies sleeping
While the children are keeping
Their dreams tucked in bed
As they try to forget
All those children unfed
And the tears keep on falling
As the leaders keep stalling
The words they just read
While the children lie dead
Now the clock strikes the hour
And the birds they all cower
Flying deep in the night
As they fly out of sight
And the children would wake up
Now they're ready to share love
To the children in need
Cause their hearts they do bleed
So they write down these letters
With the hopes they'll feel better
And with tears in their eyes
The poet hears all their cries
So he writes down these words
In the hopes he is heard
And with love for the future
He hopes love is the cure
And the city lies sleeping
And the children are keeping
All their dreams tucked inside
For the ones who have died
And they dream of the future
And the poet's left unsure
If they'll make a huge difference
Does this make any sense
Now the poet he ponders
And the children they wonder
If the birds can survive
Can't we keep children alive?
So with dreams in their pockets
And their hopes in their lockets
They reach up to the skies
And a spark fills their eyes
They get down and they pray
To the Lord that He may
Relieve this world of its pain
By sending down healing rain
Now the Lord He shows pity
Of each child in the city
So he sends down His love
In the form of His son
Now the city lies sleeping
And the children aren't weeping
For their dreams have come true
For they all feel brand new
He has saved them from death
With His life saving breath
And if the children believe
He will always receive
