"Little Paper Boy"

While walking through town
One cold and windy day
I saw a ragged little paper boy
Trying to make his way


When he hollered Extra
It didn't come out very clear
His little voice was shaking
He was too cold to hear


I went into a cafe
And had a cup of tea
I looked out the window
And he was looking back at me


I had to help this little boy
Who was so cold
I remember when I was there
Long before I got old


I went back outside
To ask how many he'd sold
Sadly he said, none sir
I guess it's just too cold


I bought all of his papers
And took him into the cafe
I gave him ten dollars
So whatever he bought he could pay


As I left him sitting there
Having a hamburger and shake
Sometimes a little kindness
Is all it really takes


While taking a short trip
Later that same day
I though of that little paper boy
Wondering why life had to be that way.
