Winter's Solstice

Well
It was the closing of the season
And the ritual must be played
Ceremonies to be enacted
And appointments to be made
I came in through the portal
Having made an over flight
And landing with precision
That cool magic loaded night
Joined the dancing round the flames
Caught a faint familiar smell
Realised my summer's ball partner
Was celebrating here as well

So
I approached her with caution
With stealth and without haste
Approached her from the rear
Slid an arm around her waist
Spun her around to face me
Kissed her on the lips
And spun her high in the air
Finger tip to finger tip
I bound her with my magic
To try and persuade her stay
But I released her quickly
When she tried to pull away

Then
I chased her and caught her
On this ceremonial day
Offered her full contract
Not just solstice's play
And she accepted with courtesy
Became my coven mate
Pledged to stay together
Till next winter's solstice date
So we have whirled and we have danced
So bound by love's fire and love's spell
But come covenant's renewal due
Who can know or really tell
