Three Hundred Days

There was a first time… the very first time…
when I saw you my heart beat so loud
you smiled at me and took my hand…
I was man and with you so proud.
Three hundred days then all was lost
but you've lingered for twenty nine years
always smiling back and laughing loud
and still bringing waves of lost tears.
I know not why this had to be
for I have loved you truly so long
it could have worked it could have been….?
but fate had decreed it was wrong.
I was shown a road and the big lights glowed
and I was lost in a whirlpool of choice
I was void of hope… I had walked the rope
and no more was there your voice.
Just three hundred days that you were mine
but I have loved you for ten thousand more
and since that very first time… you took my hand
you are all that my heart has lived for.

Dedicated to Linda
