Begging for loose pennies

Begging for loose pennies
dressed in rags and tears
on every city corner
the waste of all those years.
Some cry ‘we are so helpless..
our lives have been so cruel'
“please give me money so I can eat…
my bellies never full”.
I stop and look into their eyes
Is there really so much pain?
In some for sure their lives are lost
But others just for gain.
How can a good man really know
If another is in need?
When five from ten of all I'll pass
Need not warm food to feed.
They need just my loose pennies
so they'll never have to work
just claim a chunk from Governments purse
and another passing jerk!
