Advising Young People
Listen closely to what is taught,
Be careful to what you have sought;
My advice if you turn away,
Then no doubt you shall surely stray.
It's when I was still very young,
Hearing the birds as they had sung;
I wanted to spread wings and fly,
Such freedom they had caught my eye.
As my mother's favorite son,
Her attention I often shun;
I thought that it would be the best,
If I flew away from the nest.
I had it deep within my heart,
Better off for a brand new start;
To go out and make my own mark,
Blaze my own trail as I embark.
But now I really do regret,
The past that I tried to forget;
As I ask God to please forgive,
Letting my sins hold me captive.
