 JANET'S PLANET

Painting Of The Old Woman

The old woman in the painting
her thoughts are far away
she sits in a wooden chair
hands folded in her lap
a gold ring on her slender finger
painted behind her in the background
beautiful flowered wallpaper
her hair gray, twisted up high on her head
her hair in a bun covered with a mesh net
wearing a long sleeve purple blouse
buttoned and closed tightly around her neck
long brown woven skirt, gathered at her waist
her faint eye brows arched upward
her dazed eyes hold many stories
lips painted lightly red
sealed close together
it appears, she has something to say
words do not come
her complexion pale
facial expressions calm and peaceful
she sits and stares
her thoughts far away
her thoughts of younger days
the way things used to be
the people she used to know
thinking little of tomorrow
the old woman in the painting
her thoughts far away, now long buried
