I have walked the Ziller Valley
In an Austrian summer's heat,
Meandering off route tracks
Just following my feet.
I have travelled from the Hunsruck
In the glare of winter's snow
Following the road into the
Mosel Valley laid below.
I have seen so much beauty
On my European stays;
Am appreciating Yorkshire
In these my latter days.
The quiet calm of Pickering
Grown so gracefully old
The climb up Rosedale Chimney
In a dry winter's cold.
The beauty of the Dales;
Rugged Robin Hood's Bay,
Bring back a youthful love
On a fine summer's day.
A pint of Mild in Scarborough
Beside the old cricket ground
Where we'd nip to at lunch
For a few quick quiet rounds.
The Cow and Calf at Ilkely
Such a view from the top
Standing carefully on the edge
Very fearful of the drop.
So very much beauty
Everywhere that I roam,
But there are my memories too
Close by my Yorkshire home.
I can close my eyes
And think of where I've been;
All those places of beauty
That I've ever seen,
When I hang my walking boots
At the back of the door;
When I don't have the energy
For those peaceful rambles any more,
