The Autumn Winds

I hear the autumn winds calling
still a whisper, but closer each day
an imminent fear as each day draws near
and life slips slowly away.
Hair once full but just grey now
memories far too many to count
some memories so clear and some I hold dear
and others just riddled with doubt.
My body once strong, now much weaker
I ache with the pain of each day
nightmares I dream of all that has been
seem never to really go away.
So when I hear the autumn winds calling
I'll try not to fear what draws near
and wait patiently for whatever will be…
as winter draws closer each year.
