Leader

He was the man who played with words
Tossed and threw them around
Entranced the world with his sayings
Enunciating each clear sound
He charmed the King of Spain's daughter
'Ticed Jill away from her Jack
Had Humpty Dumpty laugh until
He fell down and broke his back

He led a life of ease
A life of such pleasure
Just talking his talk
Between his bouts of leisure
Until the world discovered
How shallow was his charm
It was a simple situation
That set off their alarm
He met a man
He had to fear
Profoundly deaf
Could not hear
Saw through the facade
To self centred lies
That unheard honeyed words
Just could not disguise

And the man who played with words
Used them to persuade and control
Found his oratorical skills
Reduced to a very minor role
As the golden flow was stopped
By a look of such withering despair
And this would be World leader
Wished he was anywhere but there
