How Gently...

How gently I would hold his heart
Keep it close in my fingers cup
Protect it from all fears and doubt
Shield it within my armor of love

A havenplace meant to find its rest
From haunts of days passed memories
Softly, ever softly, I cradle it now
Whispering to it lilting as the breeze

I'd nurture it and give it warmth
When loneliness dares to take ahold
Never once would I forsake its beat
For my own heart dares not be so bold

How gently I would hold his heart
Fingers wrapped like the wings of a dove
For it is the truest treasure to have
It is the bringer of eternal love
