A Rose by any other name .....ii

The Regiment was embarking
To serve on a foreign shore
Away from dear Old Blighty
For two years or maybe more

And the families were gathered
A sort of jumbled horde
Waiting there patiently
For the command to board

Officers and their ladies
NCO, and their wives
OR's and their women
Like different forms of life

Each mounted the gangway
Anxious not to be late
Each partners worth judged
By the rank of their mate

Each man a team member
Each strictly knew his place
Each accepted his status
With no feeling of disgrace

For a man may die for his country
A life hazard for them the norm
But to cross class barriers
Would be surely be bad form
