Talk you through a Battlefield

Let me talk you through a battlefield
where broken bodies lay
I cannot tell you why they died
the corpses cannot say.
But their bodies tell us plenty
if only we will look
and the stench of rotting flesh and blood
is not like in the books.
Bits of flesh and marrow
splattered on the ground
bodies where they once belonged
never to be found.
Grown men crying loudly
clawing at their minds
screaming out to God above
“why leave me here behind”?
Let me talk you through a battlefield
so you will hear what's real
and when it's asked to “do your bit”
tell them how you feel!
