In the meantime back at the cabin Mom and
Dad had returned with a stick stringed with
rainbow trout. Cleaned them rang the bell
and no kids were about. Mom looked at the
floor. The soup mess was hard to ignore.
Now this was long before cellular phones.
The next door neighbor too far to throw stones.
But there was no need. There was a knock on the
door they must heed. It was Brent and Ryan's
Mom and Dad. At first dad was really mad, "Has
anyone seen the boys?" I won't be listening to
any more of their ploys. I have looked all around
and none of the usual noise." Mom said, "Foggy
Bridge is covered in fog. Dad whistled they should
have come on a jog. Not only that we saw a bear
track. We find those kids dad will give them quite
a whack."
Ty's dad then said, "Do you know where the bear
tracks led?" "Beneath the waterfall at Shadow
mountains rocky bed. Late snow falling like a
fountain." And the meaning was easily read. Brent
and Ryan were the worst of the kids in trouble.
For they often lived beneath the bubble. Brent
had taken Dad's bow and arrow. that boy always
tested the straight and narrow.
Some comfort was Holmes and Sally would lead them
back, and each kid in turn would take a whack. Now
kids reading this today spankings are today history.
But long ago parents took away the mystery. Mom
and Dad could discipline by spanking them. Kids it
could be done just on a whim.
