carey daysjust around the corner at the rainbows end i chanced upon a meeting with my way back when friends there were mothers making jelly cakes and pudding angel pie we danced out in the gardens then where molly caught my eye the games we played as children upon the green that day the songs we sang each morning to while the hours away the walks across the meadows sweet where cows they grazed and chewed the sunshine and the showers gained what did we have to lose gone are the frolic moments the marbles true that spun the Ferris wheel upon the green where rabbits used to run gone are the polo water games we played upon the frome where the swans and ducks float daily and folks there still call home the church that rings its bells on Sunday morning gay where cockerel;ls crowed and hardy strolled just a few miles away the Carey rhododendron's the camp where children play the streams upon the meadow land where flags were borne and waved the parties on the green in days when queen was to be crowned the purbeck hills a distant sight with yokels all around the congregation church in little ropers lane where children sang from hymn books proud and i went back again Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
