I was barely out of my teens loving all sports
Serving a year in Korea had this athlete out of sorts
One day our houseboy said to me, "Take to village to see!"
It wasn't long after the war in uniform were we
First place he took us to see the local orphanage
To watch the children play we peaked over a ledge
Field was uneven it was hilly filled with rocks
Ball was tattered outside layer covered in socks
Game somewhat resembled baseball they were having fun
Dropped over the fence played with these kids until the setting sun
Next day we went to the PX bought some mitts, a bat, some balls
When we could visited the orphanage the kids loved us one and all
Today I was reading the sports page South Korea 8 US 7
There is pride being American someone looking down from heaven
Wars are never good and as in the years I look back to that day
Are some of the children of those kids the ones we play today?
