In reverent silence we stand
with tear in eye,heads bowed
in front of the seemingly
never ending, black granite
wall at hand.

With prayers, tears and thoughtsof a time long past, but never forgotten
of young men who fought and died for
the principles of this great land.

Rows of names from every letter
in the alphabet, over fifty eight
thousand made the stand.

They don’t want our sympathy,
they just want us to remember;
who, where and when.

Then once in a while play their song;
"American Pie" and remember
the Vietnam War was the reason…
why.
