Mosel Wein for sweetness
At the day's end
Mosel Wein to enjoy
Just chatting with friends

It stands on the table
This very special Wein
Last years grapes that
I helped strip from their vine;
Saw them carried up the hill,
Some glistening and wet,
A mixture of pressure ooze
And maybe picker's sweat.

I followed them to the Wein Haus,
Saw them pumped tumbling and loose
Into the first pressure tank,
Tasted their first sweet juice,
Ate the barbecued meat served
At the end of the picking day
Breathed in Mosel air
As we chatted the night away.

Now just one year later
We meet up again
And that bottle soon will be
Another of my life's dead men
It stands on the table
I will not drink it in haste
For I want to slowly savour
That very special first taste

Mosel Wein for sweetness
At the day's end
Mosel Wein to enjoy
Just chatting with friends
