Contemporary poetry by Dan Donlan

I WON'T LIE TO GET YOUR VOTE

In Seattle a young man was
arrested for shooting a car
prowler robbing his car
The defense said, "We don't
 shoot rustlers anymore."
I say, "Why not!"

In Texas some under aged kids were
stealing Twinkies from a man's trailer
He made one of the boys kneel
and with a shotgun shot him in the head
I think, "That is a bit harsh."

Clay Bennett and the NBA came
to Seattle from Oklahoma City
and stole the Seattle Sonics
Doesn't anyone own a shotgun
in this city?
