A lesson for life
I loved a teen boy a boy younger than me he was quite coy he was my soul friend wee I learned what brevity was to live in war bound city he taught me endurance starving for days without a "roti" he showed me obligations selling candy after school he took care of siblings after father's farewell he brought me this view whenever I felt down "Life is not to grieve" He engraved it me within I love him forever for clarity of his heart I opened my humble door on his every visit I exchanged few coins for his delicious sweets, there's nothing to exchange for his mammoth courage. By Swarnapali Liyanage ( roti = a cheapest meal made from flour and water , it is popular among Asians. This poem is a tribute to a fatherless teenage boy who sold sweets at my door after school to earn extra money to support his family and for his further education as a medical student.)
