The softness has gone

The softness has gone from your voice when you greet me
and your words have a coldness that cause me to stumble
there is also an emptiness that tells me what you're thinking…
then all I believe in starts slowly to crumble.
Something has gone from the love grown between us
and a bitterness has entered all we once cherished
now sitting here alone where normally I'd call you…
I keep asking myself, how can our love just vanish?
I am your father, the one that once you had trust in
the same man that bathed you and loved you each day
nothing has changed except your current perception
the love that I always had has not gone away.
But the love that I have for you I must now put aside
for you choose to fight me, but for what I don't know?
you have forgotten your love for me and all that we once had
my love must now hide away
… give you the chance to learn and grow.
The softness I hope will one day come back again…
and the words that you'll speak won't force me to crumble
you are my first born, my child… the last one to break my heart
and I'm sorry I'm not there for you whenever you stumble...

If only I could be perfect…?
