Three times in my lifetime I have been near death
The devil had my casket made but I resisted
The first I was a mere boy of nine lost in a snowstorm
Staggered blindly in a foot of snow to find a place warm
I don't remember the last half mile but I was home
Years later in Chicago three days in a coma Asian flu
a special lady this nurse stayed with me I hardly knew
Came awake friends said, "You had an angel watching over you."
This nurse stayed with me day and night a woman I hardly knew
The friends with me that day both died of the Asian flu
This lady gave me ice baths stayed day and night when I was blue
The third time I wrote about in the poem, "Life After death!"
So you see I thank the lord for what I have seen with each breath
Each day for me you see is a blessing let sad days move on
Talk of pain, suicide bad things, deal with those the day I'm gone
