Glory Days

I slowly walked down the little path
Where as a young child I would run
Look there through the brush and leaves
A deer standing still in the sun

Back home just to visit my youth
When time would stand perfectly still
Heroes were there at every turn
Just there at the top of the hill

It is gone to never return
To only exist in my mind
Imaginary foes fought each day
Then at sunset all left behind

Fifty odd years have come and gone
Since those great days when I was king
They remain burned in my memory
Living there till the angels sing
