Transience

She said we are in love my dear
So transparent in her trust
That he had to turn his face away
To hide his surging lust
And she gave him her body then
Heard him scream his delight
And then she sang it back to him
All through that special night

She'd said we are in love my dear
Really believed he was the one
Couldn't hide her despair when
In the morning he was gone
Just the indentation in her pillow
Still there from his sleeping head
And his male perfume still clinging
To her acres wide cold empty bed
