Hanging shadows

You leave me only shadows of the pictures on the wall
knowing loneliness is all I've left to hold
you take from me the daylight and force me into night
without your love to warm me from the cold.
You cast me out from your love though I've loved you for all time
since before the light of day first saw your eyes
I always held you close and loved you and tried to do my best
but now it seems your love for me has died.
You tell me you still love me… but I doubt that this is true
for hurting me seems to be the “love” you know
with every word there's fire of wanton hates desire
to force me to my knees with every blow.
So now all I see are shadows of the pictures on the wall
it is all that you have left for me to see
and as night time brings more shadows to hang upon my gallows
I'll dream of how I wish this life had been.
